Vijayawada Master Plan 2021 has been created for Vijayawada. As of 2011 census, the city had a population of 1,048,240, making it the second largest city in the state in terms of population and it had an urban agglomeration population of 1,491,202. As per the Demographic World Urban Areas: 2016, the city is the third most densely populated in terms of urban population in built-up areas of the world. The city has been recognized as a “Global City of the Future” by McKinsey Quarterly. It is one of the commercial hubs of Andhra Pradesh with a nominal GDP of $3 billion in 2010, and is expected to increase to $17 billion by 2025. Vijayawada is located at 16.5193°N 80.6305°E and has an altitude of 11 m (36 ft).
Vijayawada is a city on the banks of the Krishna River, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a municipal corporation and the headquarters of Vijayawada (urban) mandal in Krishna district of the state. The city forms a part of Andhra Pradesh Capital Region and the headquarters of Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority is located in the city. The city is one of the major trading and business centers of the state and hence, it is also known as “The Business Capital of Andhra Pradesh”. The city is one of the two metropolis in the state, with the other being Visakhapatnam.
As per the G.O. 104 (dated: 23-03-2017), the Municipal Administration and Urban Development has declared Vijayawada as metropolitan area. Its jurisdiction covers areas of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and its contiguous areas such as, Ambapuram, Buddavaram, Done Atkuru, Enikepadu, Ganguru, Gannavaram, Gollapudi, Gudavalli, Jakkampudi, Kanuru, Kesarapalle, Nidamanuru, Nunna, Pathapadu, Penamaluru, Phiryadi Nainavaram, Poranki, Prasadampadu, Ramavarappadu, Tadigadapa, Yanamalakuduru.While, in Guntur district the urban agglomeration ares of Vijayawada are, Tadepalle municipality and its outgrowth of Undavalli, Mangalagiri municipality and its out growths of Navuluru and Atmakur.
Vision of Vijayawada Master Plan 2021
The objective of the Vijayawada Master Plan 2021 is to create enabling spatial and land use planning framework to achieve the Vision of Vijayawada Master Plan in order to promote, guide and rationalize. The future growth and development of the urban centers, it will be critical to define their growth framework. The future growth framework of the urban centers is defined by the Master Plan/Development Plans which are evolved for each settlement at individual level. Vijayawada Master Plan 2021 has been considered as one of the most effective mechanism to promote planned growth of the urban centers. It lays down the road map, agenda and framework within which the city growth is envisioned. It provides a tool for the authorities to take decision with regard to current and future development related issues.
Vijayawada Master Plan 2021 provides the framework for rationalizing the orderly movement of traffic and transportation within the city and defines the area for laying down net-work of various services. The plan is used for promoting integrated development of the urban centre by rationalizing its pattern of land use and their interrelationship. It also defines the strategies and solutions for overcoming the existing problems of the urban centers and to overcome its infrastructural and service related inadequacies. In addition, it provides options for accommodating the future addition to population which is likely to come to the urban centre due to natural growth and migration. Master Plan acts as a tool for determining the infrastructure cost which would be required to make the city sustainable. The plans offer futuristic solutions by laying down agenda for its growth and development.
