Thiruvananthapuram Leads In Implementation Of LIFE Mission, Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram district is leading in the State in the implementation of the LIFE Mission, a comprehensive housing scheme envisaged by the State government. As many as 2,385 houses has been constructed in the district under the scheme till date.
The scheme is being undertaken simultaneously by local self-government institutions, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development, Fisheries and Minority Welfare departments. It has come as a boon to those who have not been able to complete their house owing to paucity of funds. An amount of Rs 4 lakh is being provided as financial aid, according to a press note.
According to District Collector, the block panchayats have constructed 290 houses, grama panchayats 23, Thiruvananthapuram Corporation 1,690, Scheduled Caste department 150, municipalities 77, and Scheduled Tribes department 155 as of March 12.
The construction of 498 houses are underway, LIFE Mission district working group convener and Poverty Alleviation unit project director said. He added that a target of constructing 6,577 houses has been set for the year. A total of 11,479 houses have been constructed under the scheme in the State.
A pre-bid meeting was held on Tuesday for constructing housing complexes in Chemnad grama panchayat and Punalur municipality under the LIFE Mission. The deadline for submitting tender bids is April 2.
