Thane District Has Won The First Place In State For Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

Thane district has won the first place in the state in Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). PMAY-Urban is an initiative by the government in which affordable housing is provided to the urban poor.

Affordable housing would be provided to the urban poor with a target of building 20 million houses by March 31, 2022. The talukas which have performed tremendous development in the PMAY-Urban in Thane are Kalyan, Bhiwandi and Shahapur.

The Thane Zila Parishad has provided the maximum number of houses to the poor people under this scheme in the entire state.

Besides this, the central government has approved 52,935 affordable homes for Maharashtra under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). The approval was given in a meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee held in New Delhi.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs approved a total of 2,67,546 homes across the country. The Ministry tweeted, “The honourable prime minister’s vision to provide affordable homes to every Indian by 2022 is making rapid strides and will be achieved well before time. With 2.67 lakh homes sanctioned today, total houses approved under the PMAY (urban) now reaches 54 lakh.”

Earlier, State Housing Minister had announced a public-private-partnership (PPP) model to built 11 lakh low-cost homes in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). He said the government had started work on improving infrastructure in the region and acquiring 500 acres of land for the construction of homes.

He said the State was working to forge a private partnership to fulfil Prime Minister’s vision of Housing for All by 2022. Officials said the government was under pressure to meet the target of 11 lakh homes.
