Panvel Municipal Corporation To Build 2,418 Affordable Homes Under PMAY
The Panvel municipal body has started charting out plans for constructing as many as 2,418 affordable homes at seven locations under the central government’s ambitious project Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
This is part of PCMC’s (Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) initiative to free the city of slums and improve the infrastructure with the widening of roads at certain locations after relocating slum dwellers. The construction will begin soon after obtaining approval from MHADA, the nodal agency, and the central government.
The cost for construction of multi-storey buildings ground plus 7 and ground plus 12 has been pegged at Rs 266 crore. The beneficiaries will each get a carpet area of 269 square feet costing Rs 11 lakh. The areas shortlisted for construction of subsidised houses include Valmiki Nagar slum plot, Mahakali Nagar, Tapal Naka open plot, Kachchi Mohala, Patel Mohalla, hostel plot near Valmiki Nagar and Valmiki Nagar open plot.
PCMC commissioner said the detailed project reports (DPR) are being readied for submission in the next few days. We are expecting MHADA’s approval by October-end which will follow the central sanction in November. Thereafter, tenders will be floated in December. The construction work is likely to commence by next January. In the next two years, the flats will be ready for possession.
PCMC city engineer said a corpus fund of Rs 1 lakh per tenement will be reserved for the maintenance of subsidised homes.
As per a PCMC survey, there are 1,351 hutments in old Panvel township which will be rehabilitated and relocated under PMAY. Out of 2,418 flats, the first DPR will include 632 units which will come up in Valmiki Nagar’s slum plot and Tapal Naka. The remaining 1,786 flats will be built at Kachchi Mohala and Patel Mohalla as per DPR-II. Besides, 157 proposed units for sale will be built in Mahakali Nagar, Tapal Naka and a defunct hostel’s plot. Nearly 44 commercial units will be constructed in Valmiki Nagar.
