Most of the houses to be built under the first phase of Life Mission in Ernakulam comes under the scheduled castes development department. The order from the government to mobilize funds for it came only last week and hence there was a delay, said district convener of the mission.

Of the 1,408 houses, around 523 houses were originally under schemes provided by the SC department. He said that though funds for them are higher than others, the numbers are less when compared to other states.

In general, there is no major shortage of funds in Ernakulam now. There could be shortages in the grama panchayat-level but they were able to receive funds from the district panchayat. So, the work on houses is currently going on in full swing and hoping to complete the project on time. There are around 255 houses to be built in various grama panchayats of which only 29 houses have been completed.
