Dindigul Master Plan has been created for Dindigul District. Dindigul is a city in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the administrative headquarters of the Dindigul district. Dindigul is located 420 km (260 mi) southwest of the state capital, Chennai and 100 km (62 mi) away from Tiruchirapalli and the nearest city (66 km) is Madurai. There are three national highways, NH 7 (largest highway in India) connecting Dindigul to Madurai and NH 45A connecting Chennai to Kanyakumari, and NH 209 Dindigul to Bengaluru via Sathyamangalam, Bannari pass via the city.
Natham road and Bathalagundu road are the two state highways that pass via the city. Dindigul railway junction is located in the rail head from Chennai to Madurai and Karur to Madurai. It is also connecting Dindigul to Palani. All south bound trains plying south to Madurai from Chennai pass via Dindigul. The total population of Dindigul is 2,159,775. Males constitute 50% of the total population while females constitute 50% of the total population. The latitude of Dindigul is 10.365581 and the longitude is 77.970657. It is located between the 10° 21′ 56.0916” N and 77° 58′ 14.3652” E.
Objectives of Dindigul Master Plan
The objective of Dindigul Master Plan is to create enabling spatial and land use planning framework to achieve the Vision of Dindigul Master Plan in order to promote, guide and rationalize. The future growth and development of the urban centres, it will be critical to define their growth framework The future growth framework of the urban centres are defined by the Master Plan/Development Plans which are evolved for each settlement at individual level. Dindigul Master Plan has been considered as one of the most effective mechanism to promote planned growth of the urban centres. It lays down the road map, agenda and framework within which the city growth is envisioned. It provides a tool for the authorities to take decision with regard to current and future development related issues.
Dindigul Master Plan provides the framework for rationalizing the orderly movement of traffic and transportation within the city and defines the area for laying down net-work of various services. The plan is used for promoting integrated development of the urban centre by rationalizing its pattern of land use and their interrelationship. It also defines the strategies and solutions for overcoming the existing problems of the urban centres and to overcome its infrastructural and service related inadequacies. In addition, it provides options for accommodating the future addition to population which is likely to come to the urban centre due to natural growth and migration. Master Plan acts as a tool for determining the infrastructure cost which would be required to make the city sustainable. The plans offer futuristic solutions by laying down agenda for its growth and development.
