The proposed Smart City area of 1,743 acres covering Pardi, Punapur, Bharatwada and Bhandewadi in East Nagpur is all set to witness developmental works of a whopping Rs 650 crore under the TenderSURE concept. It is probably for the first time in the Smart Cities Mission and also town planning scheme (TPS) that the works are being executed before going for an acquisition of land from stakeholders or levying additional cess/taxes.

The board of directors of Smart Cities special purpose vehicle the Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) which is headed by the additional chief secretary to CM approved a work order to Mumbai-based Shapoorji Pallonji Group for designing and execution of the works.

CEO told that all infrastructure works roads, footpaths, street lights, storm water drains, sewage lines, drinking water, footpaths, bicycle lanes etc will be executed in an integrated manner under the TenderSURE concept. It will be the first-of-its-kind in the nation. Work order period is 18 months but we will try to complete within 12 months. Four water elevated service reservoirs (ESR) will also be executed under the project. Drinking water network will be taken up under AMRUT scheme, he said.

The board also took the final decision on the merger of the NMC’s city bus service Aapli Bus with Metro Rail. The NMC office bearers mayor, municipal commissioner and standing committee chairman, and leader of opposition have reportedly accepted the decision. He has directed the municipal commissioner to get the approval of the City Transport Committee and general body and submit it to the state government for approval. The city bus service will then be run by Maha Metro.

The board also took a decision to appoint an NGO for socio-economic survey and rehabilitation and resettlement of project-affected-persons (PAPs). The decision to undertake the tendering process for an affordable housing project in the proposed Smart City area was also taken.

Officials to prepare a detailed project report of 20 more developmental works school, hospital, market, playground, garden and recreational centre that is proposed to be undertaken in the area. The estimated cost of the works is around Rs 876 crore.

The board also took the review of Rs 520 crore Smart and Safe City project. A decision was taken to dedicate the project to the public by the end of the month.
