Nellore Master Plan has been created for Nellore as of 2011 census; Nellore city had a population of 499,575. Nellore is located at 14.44°N 79.98°E.It has an average elevation of 18 meters (59 ft). Nellore (Nelluru) is a city in Nellore district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the banks of the Penna River in Nellore mandal of Nellore revenue division. It is a municipal corporation and the headquarters of Nellore district. The city is the fourth most populous settlement of the state well known for its agriculture and aquaculture.
Nellore Municipal Corporation was constituted as a municipality on 1 November 1866 by the Madras District Municipality Act. It was upgraded to corporation on 18 October 2004 and has a jurisdictional area of 150.48 km2 (58.10 sq mi) with 54 wards. In 2013, fifteen gram panchayats namely, Allipuram, Ambhapuram, Buja Buja Nellore, Chinthareddypalem, Gudupallipadu, Gundlapalem, Kallurupalli, Kanaparthypadu, Kodurupadu, Narayanareddypeta, Navalakulathota, Nellore Bit-I (Kothuru), Peddacherukuru, Pottipalem, Vavilatepadhu were merged into the municipal corporation.
The city is well connected by road with national and state highways, a major main line of Indian Railways provides rail connections and it even has a sea trade, with very close proximity to Krishnapatnam Port.
Vision of Nellore Master Plan
The objective of the Nellore Master Plan is to create enabling spatial and land use planning framework to achieve the Vision of Nellore Master plan in order to promote, guide and rationalize. The future growth and development of the urban centers, it will be critical to define their growth framework. The future growth framework of the urban centers is defined by the Master Plan/Development Plans which are evolved for each settlement at individual level. Nellore Master Plan has been considered as one of the most effective mechanism to promote planned growth of the urban centers. It lays down the road map, agenda and framework within which the city growth is envisioned. It provides a tool for the authorities to take decision with regard to current and future development related issues.
Nellore Master Plan provides the framework for rationalizing the orderly movement of traffic and transportation within the city and defines the area for laying down net-work of various services. The plan is used for promoting integrated development of the urban center by rationalizing its pattern of land use and their interrelationship. It also defines the strategies and solutions for overcoming the existing problems of the urban centers and to overcome its infrastructural and service related inadequacies. In addition, it provides options for accommodating the future addition to population which is likely to come to the urban center due to natural growth and migration. Master Plan acts as a tool for determining the infrastructure cost which would be required to make the city sustainable. The plans offer futuristic solutions by laying down agenda for its growth and development.
