MCT Tirupati: Beneficiaries To Get Single Room Before Sankranti Festival

Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) is ready to allot single room with kitchen flats for urban poor through lottery method at Daminedu in temple city before to the Sankranti festival to the beneficiaries. MCT has completed the construction of 1,664 flats in 61 blocks at a cost of Rs 124.12 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme.

In 2009, the then Congress-led UPA government had laid foundation to the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP) for urban poor. The construction of flats was stopped after the sudden demise of the former Chief Minister.

The present MCT Commissioner took the initiative of completing the construction of houses by impressing upon the state government by ensuring allocation of additional funds. The civic body chief personally supervised the construction of the flats in the last six months.

Corporation has set up the special counters for allotment of flats to beneficiary. A beneficiary has to pay Rs 40,000 towards his contribution and remaining amount will be sanctioned by the state government and banks. The beneficiaries have to clear the loan amount in monthly instalments.

MCT is providing the facilities like parks, underground drains, cement concrete roads, LED street lighting, safety drinking water, Primary Health Centre, a school and mini shopping complex for the beneficiaries. Civic body chief said the flats will be allocated to eligible beneficiaries before the Sankranti festival. They have informed the beneficiaries to pay contribution amount through banks, he stated.

Flats will be allocated to beneficiary of waiting list as per the government guidelines if any eligible person fails to pay contribution amount by January 10.
