Kokrajhar Master Plan 2011 has been created for Kokrajhar as of 2001 India census, Kokrajhar had a population of 905,764. It is located at 26.4°N 90.27°E. It has an average elevation of 38 meters (124 feet). Kokrajhar is a town in Bodoland Territorial Council, Assam, one of the North East States and territories of India.
Kokrajhar city is located along the bank of Gourang River. The North East Indian Railways divides the city into two sides, north and the south. Kokrajhar city is the headquarters of Kokrajhar district and the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
Vision of Kokrajhar Master Plan 2011
The objective of the Kokrajhar Master Plan 2011 is to create enabling spatial and land use planning framework to achieve the Vision of Kokrajhar Master Plan 2011 in order to promote, guide and rationalize. The future growth and development of the urban centers, it will be critical to define their growth framework. The future growth framework of the urban centers is defined by the Master Plan/Development Plans which are evolved for each settlement at individual level. Kokrajhar Master Plan 2011 has been considered as one of the most effective mechanism to promote planned growth of the urban centers. It lays down the road map, agenda and framework within which the city growth is envisioned. It provides a tool for the authorities to take decision with regard to current and future development related issues.
Kokrajhar Master Plan 2011 provides the framework for rationalizing the orderly movement of traffic and transportation within the city and defines the area for laying down net-work of various services. The plan is used for promoting integrated development of the urban centre by rationalizing its pattern of land use and their interrelationship. It also defines the strategies and solutions for overcoming the existing problems of the urban centers and to overcome its infrastructural and service related inadequacies. In addition, it provides options for accommodating the future addition to population which is likely to come to the urban centre due to natural growth and migration. Master Plan acts as a tool for determining the infrastructure cost which would be required to make the city sustainable. The plans offer futuristic solutions by laying down agenda for its growth and development.

The revised Master Plan of Greater Kokrajhar Urban Areas was prepared in 2011 and the present revised Master Plan of Greater Kokrajhar Urban Area is proposed to be prepared for a period of 25 years till 2040. The Kokrajhar town is also a growing town and may reach the population of a city after few years. The problems of urbanization is still not so much alarming in Kokrajhar town, but very shortly the situations will be very uncontrollable. Hence it is most important to have a proper Master Plan for the development of Kokrajhar town in the right direction.
The present revised Master Plan of Kokrajhar Urban Area is now being prepared by M/s. Oraitha Human Services Organization, a society registered with Registrar of Societies, at Guwahati, Assam and it is under process. Hence the present draft master plan reports should not be treated as final and should be suggested by everybody for amendment.
As per the URDFI guidelines, the preparation of Master Plan of a town or city should have various levels of consultation with local public, citizens, social organizations, NGOs, and different stakeholders for participative planning and deciding priority requirements of projects and their support during implementation of projects.
The draft Kokrajhar Master Plan shall be open to all and everybody to contribute something for the improvement of the Master Plan. The final shape of the Master Plan shall be given only after getting consensus of all concerned offices, line departments, important local public, NGO, organizations etc.
