Kanigiri Master Plan has been created for Kanigiri. As per the Indian Census, 2011, Kanigiri has a population around 37,420. It, located at 15.4N 79.5167E degrees, near the coast of Bay of Bengal in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. It has an average elevation of 101 meters (334 feet) and most of the year the weather remains hot.
Kanigiri is well connected by road, from its surrounding towns viz., Ongole (North-East, 80 KMs), Podili (North, 30 KMs), Kanigiri (East, 50 KMs), Pamuru (South, 40 KMs), Cumbum (West, 60 KMs) and Markapuram (North-West, 65 KMs) etc. Recently, the Government of India included the road from Narked Palli to Renigunta via Macherla, Kanigiri, Pamuru, Sangam, Venkatagiri etc., in the list of National Highways. The nearest railway stations to Kanigiri are, Ongole (80 KMs) on Chennai-Vijayawada main line and Donakonda (45 KMs) on Guntur- Guntakal Railway line. If the proposed railway line from Nadikudi to Srikalahasthi passing through Kanigiri is completed, then the transportation facility to Kanigiri will increase vertically. The nearest Airports are, Vijayawada (300 KMs), Tirupati (300 KMs) and Hyderabad (500 KMs).
Now, Kanigiri Town has elevated to Municipality from Grama Panchayath by joining its surrounding villages in 2012.
Vision of Kanigiri Master Plan
The objective of the Kanigiri Master Plan is to create enabling spatial and land use planning framework to achieve the Vision of Kanigiri Master plan in order to promote, guide and rationalize. The future growth and development of the urban centers, it will be critical to define their growth framework. The future growth framework of the urban centers is defined by the Master Plan/Development Plans which are evolved for each settlement at individual level. Kanigiri Master Plan has been considered as one of the most effective mechanism to promote planned growth of the urban centers. It lays down the road map, agenda and framework within which the city growth is envisioned. It provides a tool for the authorities to take decision with regard to current and future development related issues.
Kanigiri Master Plan provides the framework for rationalizing the orderly movement of traffic and transportation within the city and defines the area for laying down net-work of various services. The plan is used for promoting integrated development of the urban centre by rationalizing its pattern of land use and their interrelationship. It also defines the strategies and solutions for overcoming the existing problems of the urban centers and to overcome its infrastructural and service related inadequacies. In addition, it provides options for accommodating the future addition to population which is likely to come to the urban centre due to natural growth and migration. Master Plan acts as a tool for determining the infrastructure cost which would be required to make the city sustainable. The plans offer futuristic solutions by laying down agenda for its growth and development.
